Your Role:
At MilliporeSigma, the Scientist will develop cell culture media formulations for the expansion and differentiation of cells for the emerging cultured meat industry.Working closely with data scientists and process engineers, this position will be responsible for designing and progressing development projects for various food-relevant species by leveraging high-throughput cell culture platforms. Identifying and testing novel food-grade raw materials that drive bioprocess efficiency and sustainability will be integral to this role.Primary responsibilities include: establishing cell characterization assays, developing optimized cell culture media formulations, investigating food-grade sources of media nutrients, and running bench-scale bioreactor processes. Additionally, the scientist will stay informed of advancements in the fields of cultured meat, cellular metabolism and tissue engineering to expand the team’s capabilities and expertise. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a broad group of technical and non-technical personnel, including both internal and external partners. This position will be based in Darmstadt, Germany.

Who You Are:
Master’s degree in Cell Biology or related Science discipline with 3+ years industrial experience – OR -Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Metabolomics or related field with 1+ years relevant industrial experience

Background in cell culture techniques and demonstrated experience and knowledge of a variety of cell types, including stem cells and/or primary cells

Strong background in cell culture media development and understanding of metabolic pathways

Solid experience and theoretical knowledge of different analysis techniques including microscopy, flow cytometry analysis, immunoassays, ELISA and qPCR

Familiarity with bioreactor systems and process development

Demonstrated ability to scope and manage projects, to accomplish objectives with short deadlines

Strong proficiency in German, English, and Microsoft Office Tools
